Tracking: The ability to follow disturbances indicating the presence or passage of a person or animal.

If you have any questions about training, please contact Bart Bjorkman at 1-250-254-5076 or northerntracker@protonmail.com
A large part of tracking is developing acute observation skills. Imagine being able to see things that others don't see. Consider how hyper-awareness can change your life...not just the ability to follow a person or animal, but in all areas - such as avoiding danger and recognizing lies.

Search & Rescue Tracker Training:

Track Aware - "Lessons in Observation" - This is our entry level tracking course which starts Friday evening and finishes up around noon on Sunday. Not to sound dramatic, but for many people this course is a life changing experience. After this course you will never look at the ground the same way again.

Cost: $200

About this course:
This is where core observation skills are developed.  On completion of this course, you will be able to:
  • identify and differentiate tracks
  • follow a "line of sign"
  • establish the direction of travel of a lost person
  • dramatically enhance your observation skills.

Certification: As our training is based on the skill building model, it requires training, practice and experience to achieve the level of  "Track Aware". Although the skills developed even after just one course will be useful in searches, it will take between forty and sixty hours (2 to 3  courses) to acquire the skill set required to meet the standards for certification at the "Track Aware" level of training.
Advanced Tracking

Level 1
 - "Recognition and Response". This is an advanced level tracking course where trackers learn the skills to move "sign" quickly.  Level one trackers are a game changer for search Managers.

Prerequisite: Must be certified to the "Track Aware" level to take the Level 1 course.

Cost: $200

About this course: Trackers at this level are able to:
  • cut for sign
  • find lost sign
  • achieve advance levels of recognizing sign
  • effectively track and overtake the lost subject

To acquire the skills, practice and experience that are required to meet the standards, it usually takes between forty and sixty hours  (2 to 3 course) to achieve "Level 1" certification.
Bushcraft:

Basic Survival- What if you don't make it back to the car before dark?  Learning basic survival skills makes an unexpected overnight stay in the back country an inconvenience...not a life threatening ordeal. This weekend course starts Saturday morning at 0900 and finishes mid afternoon on Sunday. The topics include fire starting, shelter construction, hydration, signalling, and way finding.  As well, you will learn about what should be in your basic survival kit.

Navigation - A must for back country travelers. This comprehensive one day course covers map and compass, GPS, and route selection.

Search & Rescue:

Lost Person Behaviour - This two day course is based on Robert Koester's work in lost person behaviour. This training is a game changer for trackers, team leaders and SAR managers.
Cost: $225 (includes manual)
